Wills and Estates Specialist Accreditation Conference

Michael Perkins will be presenting at the Law Society Wills and Estates Specialist Accreditation Conference in August.
The conference will be a full-day in-person event at the International Convention Centre, Sydney on 17 August 2023, followed by a half-day of online webinars on 18 August 2023. Attendees can secure 10 CPD hours at this event.
Michael’s presentation will be entitled Distinguishing concerns about client vulnerability, competence and decision making capacity.
In this session he examines a number of issues relating to client competence and capacity that cross the spectrum of professional practice. Topics covered include:
- evaluating client competence and compliance with Rule 8 of the Legal Profession Uniform Law Australian Solicitors’ Conduct Rules 2015 (NSW),
- indicators of cognitive intactness,
- an advocacy approach to evaluating vulnerability, and
- the related risks of coercion and abuse.
The presentation also considers guidelines for cognitive responsive practice, and how practitioners can build decision making resilience in their client.
At this event you will hear from specialists and experts across the profession on a wide range of topics relevant to your practice. Attendees will receive 10 CPD units per specialist stream, with six hours of live in-person and four hours of online webinars.
Conference sessions will be recorded and made available after the event. This year’s conference streams include Business Law, Family Law, Personal Injury, Property Law, and Wills & Estates.
